Join Us

Good governance is vital to ensuring that schools evolve and continuously improve to provide the very best, holistic education to their pupils.  Schools and Trusts depend on volunteers to support leadership in schools.

We are always looking for passionate, enthusiastic and committed individuals to join us.  We need people who have a diverse range of skills, experiences, qualifications, characteristics and perspectives, who come from different backgrounds and settings which we believe strengthens the work of our boards. Whether you are keen to work with one of our schools on a Local Governing Board or work at an estate wide level with the Directors of our Trust, we are always keen to hear from people who share our founding ethos. We welcome applications from everyone and see the value of the different experiences and skills each applicant brings to the table.  This is a strategic role (an ‘eyes on, hands off’ approach!) and we are looking for individuals who are able to evaluate a wide range of information and are able to support, question and challenge with empathy and integrity.

Some of the experience that you could bring might be:

  • School leadership
  • Educational management
  • HR
  • Finance & Procurement
  • Marketing and communications
  • Health and safety & Estate management
  • Organisational and/or change management
  • Project management
  • Policy development
  • Charity/commercial management & Charity/commercial governance

However, this list is just some examples and certainly not requirements – we want to here about the wonderful skills and experience you could bring.

We try to make sure every minute spent governing in our Trust is worthwhile. Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to come in every week – for example our schools usually hold around 6 LGB meetings a year which last a couple of hours. You would also need to occasionally visit the schools during the day to see them in action!  We may also ask you to join a sub-committee.  We offer full training, with ongoing support networks across the Trust so you would be part of a much wider family, carrying out similar roles.

By becoming a governor or director, you can influence decisions which have a direct impact on our pupils’ education. You can make a real difference to the lives of local children and ensure every child receives the education they deserve.

If you have the skills, passion and drive for a governance role, please do call us to find out more about the role.  Our Trust Governance Manager would love to hear from you. Please do contact her via abrabner@stalbansdmat.co.uk
